Welcome to Adventures in Scent

Welcome to the fragrant world of Penhaligon'sYou may have noticed that we’re a little bit passionate about perfume. OK, well maybe we veer towards the obsessive side of things, but we feel it’s healthy to have a special shelf for your 100+ bottles of scent and spend hours scouring the internet for discontinued gems from the 30s. Some people like shoes/books/bags/going to the gym, we like fragrance. And as you’re reading this, we’re guessing you do too.

That’s why we created Adventures in Scent: to enable us to share our passion for perfume.  We’ll be opening up the fascinating world of fragrance, introducing new launches and the incredible perfumers we are lucky enough to work with, surprising you with the strange ingredients we come across and telling you about cool stuff we see, read and hear. Some of this will be Penhaligon’s related, some won’t.  We hope you like it.

We’ll also be inviting fragrance bloggers to contribute from time to time and would love to hear your ideas and comments, so if you’d like to get in touch please email us adventuresinscent@penhaligons.com

Hi, I am creating a film about the art and science of perfume. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions for anything or anyone at all, would be really helpful. Thanks for the blog can’t wait to see what it brings :)

I really want to thank Penhaligon’s for providing the perfume profiling service and recommended 1 or 2 fragrances out of the whole collection based on the easy question and answer session. The accuracy is actually uncanny! Alex recommended Amaranthine to me and I ran to the distributor in Vancouver and ask Naz to let me smell it. It was perfect, full of exotic white blossoms, with a tropical touch but controlled like in a conservatory. I feel I am surrounded with flowers whenever I am wearing Amaranthine even in our cold and wet weather. It is simply beautiful.

I first fell in love with Penhaligon’s a year ago when my partner surprised me at Christmas with products from the Artemisia range. Since then I’ve been enthralled by the story behind each of the Penhaligon’s scents and been on a journey of new discovery. I find the whole experience from choosing a scent or product to walking out of the shop with beautifully wrapped purchases absolutely delightful.

As a long time customer, I am thrilled with this latest idea – I always make time to visit one of your stores when I’m in Edinburgh or London – I do miss your Glasgow location though, as I tend to be there more often than the other cities – & living in Aberdeen the choice of non High Street fragrance is non existent!

    • Good to hear Carolyn. In fact we have Alex from our Edinburgh boutique already lined up to write a guest blog. Keep your eyes peeled for the next post.

    • Carolyn says:

Will look forward to Alex’s piece – he & I have had various detailed conversations in the past about fragrance in general – it’s a delight to come across people working in fragrance stores or on fragrance counters who are experts in their field, as opposed to sales assistants who just happen to be assigned to selling fragrance that day!

I bought the Bluebell line of products for my wife. As a man, I like the idea of buying something special for her. We love the variety of layers of this scent, the simple elegance of the bottle, and the talents of the people who made it.

I like the stories behind how you come up with ideas for a scent. When I’m thinking about that, I’m thinking about my wife. In my life, I enjoy connecting the two.

    Thank you.

    • Hello Dennis. Great fragrance choice for your wife. Bluebell is so evocative and multi-faceted as you say! For me it simply *is* a walk in a damp bluebell wood; the hyacinth mixing with damp earth and moss. Just perfect for this time of year! We can’t wait to go and see the Bluebell ‘show’ at Kew Gardens! Thanks so much for commenting and check back soon for more exclusive fragrance stories!

Super idea. I hope that you will get contributions from the ladies in the Cambridge store. They were so super to work with when I was there last summer. Jude is especially passionate about Penhaligon’s scents. I have become an addict.

    • Hi Joan. Indeed we will be featuring guest blogs from our boutique staff too! The ladies at Cambridge are brilliant, really pleased you had such a great experience there and have become a perfume addict too!
