The Scent of Spring: Bluebells!

I spent the bank holiday weekend down in Somerset with my Father, and we were lucky enough to be tipped off about this wonderous bluebell wood not far away in Dorset. On our way to to seaside we stopped off for a quick look…and discovered probably one of the most joyful and beautiful spring sights I have ever seen. I couldn’t resist posting some pictures here on Adventures in Scent. I hope you enjoy them. What they can’t show of course is the incredible scent hanging in the warm spring air!

A lovely bee collecting Bluebell pollen!

I managed to capture this lovely furry bee gathering pollen, more about bees later in the week!
Of course, I can’t talk about Bluebells without mentioning our most famous feminine fragrance Bluebell! Now every time I wear it I am sure I’ll be transported back to this beautiful Dorset wood, the scent of the Bluebells mingling with the damp wood floor and mossy tree bark. Bliss.

Our beautiful Bluebell fragrance!

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend,
Emily.

Those pictures are gorgeous! I haven’t seen those flowers over here… actually i think maybe I have but they look a lot different. The smaller, shorter variety (google images has a nice set). But I have absolutely no idea what they smell like. I would love to smell Penhaligon’s Bluebell. Perhaps some day. :)

    • Hello! Thanks for your comment! There are two main types of Bluebell; Spanish and English. The spanish ones are more upright (and starting to take over) while the traditional English ones (which this wood was bursting with) have the lovely drooping stem with the little blue bells hanging down! They smell much very much like hyacinths but softer and sweeter in my opinion! Bluebell is a wonderful scent, I’ll see if I can find you a sample! Emily.
