Introducing the Adventures in Scent Team

We’ve got so many things to write about (and some great guest blogs lined up too) but we thought a good place to start would be to tell you a little bit about the people who will be looking after this blog!
The Adventures in Scent Team
The Adventures in Scent Team! L-R: Lauren, Nicky and Emily
Lauren
Q:  What was your first ever fragrance and how did you discover it?  A: Givenchy’s Hot Couture  – a present from Santa Claus and a scent I’m still wearing 13 years on!
Q: What are your favourite every day smells?  A: Vanilla, cut grass, coffee, incense, freshly baked bread
Q: What are your current favourite fragrances?  A: Penhaligon’s Amaranthine,  Tom Ford’s Black Orchid,  Serge Lutens’ Five O’Clock Au Gingembre, L’Artisan  Parfumeur’s Vanille Absolument
Q: What would be the dominant notes in your ‘dream’ fragrance? A:  Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Jasmine, Rose, Spices
Nicky
Q: What was your first ever fragrance and how did you discover it?  A: The first bottle I owned was a gift of CK One in my early teens.  (But I confess to sneaking into my mother’s dressing room to spritz her Giorgio Beverly Hills – I even used to spray it on my pillow when they went away on business trips!)
Q: What are your favourite every day smells?  A: A guilty pleasure is the smell of petrol – I cannot help but inhale a deep breath when filling up my car.
Q: What are your current favourite fragrances?  A: Jean Paul Gaultier’s Classique, Penhaligon’s LP No. 9 for Ladies and Guerlain’s Samsara; I am a drawn to Orientals.
Q: What would be the dominant notes in your ‘dream’ fragrance? A:  I would say Jasmine, Vanilla and Amber.
Emily
Q: What was your first ever fragrance and how did you discover it?  A: Thierry Mugler’s Angel, I saw it a magazine and then dragged my Dad to a perfumer whilst on holiday in France to get it! I loved the bottle and was very proud to wear a fragrance that none of my friends had heard of (yet!).
Q: What are your favourite every day smells?  A: Rain on hot concrete, horses, fresh basil, old books, frying bacon!
Q: What are your current favourite fragrances?  A:  Santa Maria Novella’s Lilac Triple Extract, Penhaligon’s Violetta or Bluebell or Orange Blossom for the day (definately influenced by my excitement that Spring is not very far away!) and Guerlain’s L’Heure Bleue or my tiny vintage bottle of Schiaparelli’s Shocking for the evening.
Q: What would be the dominant notes in your ‘dream’ fragrance? A: Heliotrope, Ambergris (the real stuff!), Jasmine from Grasse, Oakmoss and a nice bit of Civet (not the real stuff!).
We’d love to know what ingredients you’d include in your ‘dream’ fragrance…comment and let us know! You never know, it might inspire a new scent!

Bitter orange, clove, bergamot, leather, basilicum, jasmine, mimosa and thym, all the fragrances from my youth in Grasse, my lovely city !

My favorite fragrance ? Hum to be honest I had the bad habit to spray a bit of mademoiselle coco on my hands, just because I love the perfume… The problem ?… I’m a man !

I keep the dryed peel of the mandarin in my pocket, just because I like the smelling on my hands.

I’d have to say some dream ingredients for me in a fragrance would be… Vetiver, Indole, Coumarin, Rosewood and Mimosa… a deeply sensuous blend I believe :)

  4. Hazle says:

I love the gunpowder smell you get early morning after Nov 5 when it’s damp…

I, too, like a whiff of petrol. :- ) I’ve worn so many scents over the years but now stick to Endymion. Just to take the cap off and inhale makes me weak at the knees! I wish it lasted a bit longer on me. :- (

  5. Christine Chourma says:

I am an amber-lover. Patchouli, myrh, violet, bergamot, jasmine, turkish rose and styrax.
I love full and rich scents!
Le baiser du dragon is what fits on my skin like a glove (during winter).
Ultraviolet is another love perfume I mostly use (during summer).
But i tend to try and change different perfumes every second day. Sometimes I combine them (Paris & J’adore) making my friends ask me “what are you “wearing” today?”

Where is the facebook like link ?

  7. kjanicki says:

I like the civet/oakmoss/ambergris from Emily’s choices, for a lovely deep sexy base, but I would do it with rose, for a non-sweet, dark n’ dirty rose chypre.

  8. EDM says:

Styrax, Iris, Iso E super, saffron, aldehydes, tonka bean, clove, white musk, ylang, ambrox….. enough leather to make Chanel’s Cuir De Russie blush, Knize Ten cough and Tabac Blond quiver in ecstasy.

  9. Styrch says:

So good to see your beautiful faces! :)

Lauren – What is it about baked bread? I think that’s one of those universal smells that everyone loves. And variations of course… like baking cookies. :)

Nicky – I so agree on the petrol smell! And i want to try every scent you mentioned. :)

    Emily – bacon…. mmmmm.

I can’t wait to read more on this blog!
